Drove south ready to go on the ferry to the south island tomorrow, from Wellington to Picton. Visited 'Carrotland' before we left Ohakune - an adventureland with loads of play stuff for kids as well as huge vegetable statues including a carrot race car and a carrot rocket! They even had a pump track. All free to use and looks like they fundraised for the whole project and got donations from the community and business sponsors. Es Hotel Lybid Kiew Huren eine lange Fahrt vor uns, aber trotzdem sind wir um einen Überblick über die Stadt zu bekommen zum Mount Victoria aufgebrochen. Mit Hilfe eines unglaublich netten Kiwis und unseres Navis haben wir auch gut hingefunden und dabei noch Strassen gesehen, die uns extrem stark an San Francisco erinnerten. Obwohl wir uns kaum sattsehen konnten, mussten wir weiter. Dann sind wir mehrere Stunden durch eine wenig abwechslungsreiche Landschaft mit vielen kleinen Städtchen gefahren. Von dort sind wir wieder ins Hinterland, eine fast menschenleere Gegend, gefahren, das Whanganui Flusstal entlang. Eine sehr schöne Landschaft, eine super Gegend um auch als Anfänger eine mehrtägige Kanutour zu machen. Die Fahrt selbst war wieder anstrengend, viele Kurven, Engstellen und immer wieder Steinschläge. Trotzdem sind wir sicher in Ohakune gelandet. Nach kurzem Einchecken im Motel, sind wir los zum Feuergott, die drei aktiven Vulkane des Tongariru Nationalparks. Für wunderbare 15 Minuten, die wir dort verbrachten, haben sie ihren Wolkenschleier gelüftet und uns ihre drei schönen, Schnee und Eis-bedeckten Gipfel gezeigt. Danach war alles wieder vorbei, so ein Glück! Es regnet. Und da wir heute nicht mehr erleben, als die Autofahrt von National Park Village zu unserer neuen Unterkunft in Rotorua mit einigen Zwischenstopps, gibt es auch nichts zu erzählen.
